When President Obama gets that 3am call, he’s likely to still be awake! The candidate who never sleeps just released a video message to the European Olympic Committee on behalf of Chicago’s 2016 Olympic bid. Obama has been a longtime supporter of bringing the Olympic and Paralympic games to his adopted state. His prime time appearance on behalf of the Chicago delegation, making their case before the committee gathering in Istanbul, Turkey will go a long way. When did he have time to shoot the video? Between transition sessions, no doubt.
Michelle and Barack Obama made it to the White House so they could get an up-close look at their new digs. While Barack refrained from a “WTF, homey?” during his mano-a-mano with W., First Lady Laura Bush showed Michelle around. Here’s what we know:
In spite of those testy “clueless” remarks during the campaign, everybody was on their best behavior.
Yes, Michelle was bangin’ in a hot red dress.
The Obama’s arrived 10 minutes early (ha!)
Bush’s team showed Obama’s team around the campus and, presumably debriefed them on responsibilities, i.e. who makes the beer run.
First Lady Laura Bush was said to have offered Michelle tips on bringing up children in the White House. Though, given the Bush twins unsavory (and illegal!) history there, Michelle might want to walk that tidbit off.
Sun-Times pop music critic, Jim DeRogatis reports that, in response to Michael’s recent denial of rumors that he would participate in the much-touted Jackson reunion tour, scheduled for 2009, brother Marlon reportedly said, “I don’t know [why he’s not participating]. I think he’s in Egypt riding a camel.”
While the celebration of a new world order went on around the globe, certain “interested parties” were already jockeying to get their issues before the Prez. In stunningly swift order:
Russia (2 hours after election results) - Medvedev declared Russia’s intention to move missiles along their border with Poland, in response to U.S. warheads positioned there. Oh, and reneiged on the promise to remove ballistic missiles from western Russia by 2010. Call me.
Amnesty International (@7 hours after election results) - Address the whole human-rights-violations-especially-as-it-pertains-to-torture-and-Guantanamo Bay issue. Within your first 100 days, please.
Kenya (approximately 12 hours after election results) - “What do we want? Visas! When do we want ‘em? Now!” After cautioning his countrymen not to expect Obama to “immediately start handing out visas to come to the United States,” President Mwai Kibaki declared a national holiday in honor of Obama’s victory.
And in a show of political clout worthy of Chicago-style politics, within hours of the results, a crew from the Kenyan power company was dispatched to the Obama family village of Kogelo to install electric street lights in time for the holiday.
One day before Barack Obama would make history as the first Black president, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson buried her mother, brother and nephew. Though Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, didn’t live to see this historic moment, she helped contribute to it. Donerson voted early!! — Margena Christian
Anybody get a look at Cindy McCain today during the New Mexico rally? Strange enough that she’s joined at the (artificial?) hip to husband John, showing up on the platform — in the exact same spot behind him — at every campaign event, but a once over today suggests maybe it’s Cindy we should worry about not being able to take the pressure, not the aged presidential candidate.
The former rodeo queen, normally au couture and put together, looked as though she’d been tossed by a bull. Hair a little rough, McCain had a loopy smile plastered on her face that suggested external influences might be at work.
In the words of former First Lady, Nancy Reagan — “Just Say No.”

“It was nasty…very nasty. But it was wonderful,” was how L’il Wayne described being in the delivery room for the birth of his second child, Dwayne Michael Carter III. Wayne shared the love during a Power 105.1 Powerhouse concert. The young squire was born Oct. 22, weighing in at 7lbs, 12 oz. Carter is also the proud daddy of Reginae, age eight.
The birth marked an upturn in a decidedly down period in the rappers life: Last week he bailed on a concert in Wilmington, North Carolina when the crowd turned out to be a third of what was anticipated. TMZ reports that local law enforcement offered to try and raise the remainder of his fee, but, told that the money couldn’t be raised until the following Monday, the rapper bounced, leaving the Mitchell Entertainment Group to deal with refunding money to 1,000 irate fans.
As much fun as Guitar Hero is supposed to be, this commercial featuring Kobe Bryant, A-Rod, Michael Phelps and Tony Hawk does nothing to up the cool quotient. In fact, channeling the Tom Cruise boxer karaoke scene from Risky Business is about as far removed from being a hero as you can get. Guess you had to be there:
Hours after the remains of a child were found inside the white SUV involved in the Hudson family slayings, Jennifer Hudson and several family members gave a positive identification of that child as 7-year-old Julian King, missing since Friday. The child, found in the back seat, suffered multiple gun shot wounds.
A long-time resident of the West Side neighborhood where the child was found called police after noticing the SUV parked on his street.
Neighbors and strangers alike passed by the family’s South Side home, leaving flowers, stuffed animals and other displays of support.
