Campus Voting 101

Can registering to vote affect your scholarship or financial aid? What’s the relationship between voter registration and car registration for out-of-state students? Can voter registration establish residency? Students get answers to these questions and others in Jet’s report: Campus Voting: What Every College Student Needs To Know. Citing a guide to student voting by the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law, the report lists some of the major misconceptions surrounding student registration. “Given the very small margins by which elections are won, students have a considerable impact on their government,” notes Susan Lehman, director of communications and strategy for the Brennan Center. “This makes it especially imperative that convoluted registration rules don’t discourage or deter students from exercising their right to vote."

Where Is Shalamar?

Though the sum may be greater than its parts, each member of the R&B trio Shalamar is faring very well on his own more than two decades after the group released its last album, The Look. Jody Watley, 49, who later won solo fame and is now a mother of two, recently was featured in Italian Vogue and has launched an online music store. Jeffrey Daniel, 52, lived in Japan for the past 20 years. He produced acts there and briefly hosted a radio show. He has relocated to London where he’s working on a solo career. Solo crooner Howard Hewett, now 53, is part owner of The Groove Records and continues to perform throughout the U.S. and overseas.
